Saint-Francois is a bustling commune, located on the southeast point of Grande-Terre island in Guadeloupe. The focal point of the town is its marina, full of lively restaurants and bars. Bwa Chik Hotel is situated adjacent to this marina, and we when pulled up, we knew we were in for a good time.
The hotel is set amongst a strip of storefronts and cafes, directly across the street from the Golf International de Saint-Francois course. After we parked our car right in front of the hotel entrance, we were greeted by a friendly front desk attendant, George. After taking a quick tour of the lobby, we headed up one flight of stairs to our room.
We were given a classic room with a golf view, bright with white walls and linens and decorated in rustic accents. A small private balcony with a set of table and chairs allowed us to spend some time in the Guadeloupe heat, while looking out over the golf course. The bathroom was modern, clean and filled with fragrant toiletries.
After settling in and getting ready for the night, we went downstairs to grab a drink in the lobby bar. Made of natural wood and lit with contemporary hanging pendants, the bar seats 6 people and offers classic Guadeloupe cocktails like ti punches and planteurs. George was working as the bartender that night, and after he made our drinks, he suggested we go outside and enjoy them in the sitting area adjacent to the restaurant.
The lounge was beautifully designed with white and wooden furniture that again added to the overall rustic-chic appeal of the hotel. The white sheer curtains that swayed in the breeze around us as we sipped our cocktails offered a romantically whimsical privacy. The restaurant that shared the space featured timbered fixtures and colorful chairs. Breakfast is served at the hotel daily from 7 AM - 10 AM.
We spent the remainder of the night in the marina. After a delicious dinner at Cafe Wango, we hopped from bar to bar, as the harbor came alive with sounds of zouk music and beautiful people dancing under the stars. Sleeping in the comfortable bed back at Bwa Chik was the perfect ending to our night out on the town.
The next day, Ian was able to play a round of golf at Golf International de Saint-Francois, which he described as a fun and challenging course set in a tropical, Caribbean landscape. I spent the day at the quaint hotel pool, surrounded by a lush garden. Once Ian returned from golfing, we were off on our next Guadeloupe adventure - straight to the beach!
